Residential Swimming Pools

  • Fencing An authorized enclosure to separate the pool from the house like fences, barriers or wall that surrounds the pool area. Any Removable Mesh Fencing are also approved. The pool shall incorporate fencing that matches with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Specifications F-2286 standards in conjunction with a system which close and latch any gates by themsleves. The locking system must be out of reach kids

  • Safety Cover: The swimming pool shall be covered with an approved safety pool blanket that fits all requirements of the ASTM Specifications F 1346. This standard stans up for pool nets, solid covers, mesh covers and automatic cover. Safety devices must hold a weight of 485lbs per 5 square feet.

  • Swimming Pool Alarms: Swimming pool alarms that, when are set in pools, will altert within 7 seconds unintentional or unauthorized access into the water. These pool alarms shall meet and be certified to the ASTM Standard F 2208 by an independant Laboratory "Standards Specification for Pool Alarms" which includes surface motion, pressure, sonar, laser, and infrared type alarms.

Swimming pool alarms shall not include swimming safety alarm devices designed for individual use, such as an alarm attached to a child that sounds when the child exceeds a certain distance or becomes submerged in water

Public Swimming Pools

The Public swimming pools in California must be in compliance with:

Signed by the U.S. President Bush on December 2007, the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act (P&SSAct) is effective since the December 19, 2008. This rule is designed to foreclose swimming pools hazards. The risks of pools like body entrapments or eviscerations are more often lying in wait and lethal.


The Act established U.S. CPSC criteria for pool and spa safety. Under the code, every drain covers must meet ASME/ANSI A112.19.8-2007 in all public swimming pools and Spas. The water installations which have a single main drain different than an unblockable drain must establish a 2nd device to contend for entrapments.


The fabrication, the trade or retail of drain covers which are not in compliance with the security criteria required by the CPSC is prohibited in USA to ensure that all drain covers available in the marketplace are compliant with safety stipulations.


Each public pools must put in anti-entrapment drain covers and enforce other levels of protection such as safety vacuum release systems or fences.


A mandated contractor should ensure that the pool and spa are compliant with the federal Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety Act.
