Public Swimming Pools

The Virginia Graeme Baker Federal Pool and Spa Safety Act is implemented in Hawai for Public Swimming pools.

Enacted by the U.S. President Bush on December 2007, the VGB Pool and Spa Safety Act (P&SSAct) is in force since the December 19, 2008. This code is planned to prevent swimming pools jeopardies. The dangers of pools like body entrapments or eviscerations are more often lying in wait and deadly.

The VGB Act set U.S. CPSC touchstones for pool and spa safety. Under the law, all drain covers must match ASME/ANSI A112.19.8-2007 in all public swimming pools and Spas. The water installations which have a single main drain different than an unblockable drain must put in a second system to contend for entrapments.

The industry, the sale or retail of drain covers which are not in compliance with the protection touchstones required by the CPSC is prohibited in USA to ensure that all drain covers accessible in the market are conformable with safety specifications.

Each public pools must install anti-entrapment drain covers and implement other layers of protection such as safety vacuum release systems or enclosure.

A mandated contractor should control that the pool and / or spa are compliant with the federal VGB Pool & Spa Safety Act.
