The Uniform code Requirements

New and reshaped swimming pools, toddler pools and spas must be isolated from the home by one of the following methods:
- Enclosure: An authorized fencing or barriers to separate the pool from the house; or, Removable Mesh Fencing: The pool shall incorporate removable mesh pool fencing that meets American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Specifications F-2286 standards in conjunction with a self-closing and self-latching which can accommodate a key lockable device
- Safety Cover: The swimming pool shall be covered with an approved safety pool cover that meets all requirements of the ASTM Specifications F 1346.
- Swimming Pool Alarms: Swimming pool alarms that, when are in place in pools, will sound upon detection of accidental or unauthorized access into the water. These pool alarms shall meet and be certified to the ASTM Standard F 2208 by an independant Laboratory "Standards Specification for Pool Alarms" which includes surface motion, pressure, sonar, laser, and infrared type alarms.
Swimming pool alarms shall not include swimming safety alarm devices designed for individual use, such as an alarm attached to a child that sounds when the child exceeds a certain distance or becomes submerged in water

Public Swimming Pools
Enacted by the U.S. President Bush on December 2007, the VGB Pool and Spa Safety Act (P&SSAct) is in force since the December 19, 2008. This regulation is designed to prevent swimming pools hazards. The risks of pools like body entrapments or eviscerations are more often lying in wait and mortal.
The Virginia Graeme Baker Act settled U.S. CPSC standards for pool and spa security. Under the law, every drain covers must fit ASME/ANSI A112.19.8-2007 in all public swimming pools and Spas. The manufacturing, the trade or retail of drain covers which are not in conformity with the security criteria required by the CPSC is prohibited in USA to ensure that all drain covers accessible in the market place are conformable with safety specs.
